my Statement of Beliefs
Writing a statement of beliefs is not a task I take lightly. A short statement, such as the one that follows, rarely does justice to the depth of a belief system. So, I entrust to you the following statement in the hopes that it accurately conveys the fundamental truths upon which my faith rests:
- I confess that Jesus Christ is the living Word of God, a complete and perfect revelation; that the Holy Spirit is the divine advocate of that revelation; that the Bible is the inspired and authoritative historical witness to that revelation; and, that the universal Church is the representative and trustee of that revelation.
- I confess faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour.
- I confess sola gratia, sola fide, solus Christus, soli Deo Gloria.
- I confess the inspiration of Scripture.
- I confess the authority of the believing community, the True Church, to whom all interpretation is accountable and subject to reproof.
- I confess a faith generally consistent with the Nicene Creed.
In the future, I may expand on these confessions but these are my core beliefs. Check back for a more comprehensive statement in the coming months.
